COUNCIL ADOPTS REVISED STRATEGIC DIRECTION
At its meeting last week, Glen Innes Severn Council formally adopted a revised strategic direction to provide guidance in the development of Management Plans over a number of years.
General Manager Hein Basson said that Council had decided to revise its strategic direction following the recent Local Government elections. "Three (3) new Councillors were elected for a new four (4) year term, so it seemed appropriate to revisit the strategic direction, to ensure it was still relevant," he explained. "Councillors and the senior management team attended a Strategic Planning Workshop during which the new Strategic Direction was developed. Before the workshop, Council employees provided some valuable input into the new Strategic Direction, and this also positively influenced the outcome."
The Mayor, Cr Steve Toms said the revised strategic direction built on the previous Council's direction, by adding new ideas based on experience. "Council's slogan is still Embracing Change, Building on History. "However, the Vision Statement has been changed to read to lead a confident, inclusive community that is resilient and proud of its spirit and collective achievements, heritage and environment," he explained. "The New Mission Statement now reads To value our people, and enable them to effectively manage appropriate community facilities and services in a responsive, progressive and efficient manner."
Council's values have also been modified, with the addition of two (2) new ones. "The list of values is now Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Openness, Objectivity, and Courage," Mr Basson said.
Council has also identified ten (10) Strategic Priorities. They relate to:
-
Becoming an employer of choice;
-
Continuing to build a ‘one-council' culture across all work-sites;
-
Continuing the review of our existing road network;
-
Monitoring emerging climate change trends;
-
Engaging our community in the development of an integrated water cycle management strategy;
-
Engaging our community in integrated planning;
-
Continuing to improve financial management and accountability;
-
Continuing to improve our open communication with our community;
-
Providing community leadership;
-
Continuing to build quality of life and well-being.
