NEW DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING SERVICES APPOINTED

Last modified: November 16, 2009 - 11:33 PM

Glen Innes Severn Council is pleased to announce the appointment of its new Director of Engineering Services, Mrs Vanessa Menzie.

General Manager, Hein Basson, said Mrs Menzie would take up the position on Monday 21 July. "I am looking forward to working with the new director," he said. "She has a very strong background in Local Government and in Engineering. I am confident that she will add a great deal of value to Council's operations."

Mrs Menzie was Director of Technical Services at Narrandera Shire Council, before moving to Brisbane for family reasons. Her most recent job was at the private engineering firm, Connell Wagner. "I've spent most of my career in Local Government, and I'm pleased to be returning to the sector," she said.

One of Mrs Menzie's aims is to improve work practices at Glen Innes Severn Council. "I will be implementing the recommendations of Local Government and Shires Association review of Council's Engineering Department," she explained. "I have an inclusive management style, and look forward to getting out on the worksites and getting to know my staff. I have a strong focus on training, which builds on staff's existing skills, and helps them develop new ones."

Mrs Menzie also believes the social needs of the community are very important. "Local Government is the custodian of community infrastructure," she said. "I want to become familiar with the roads and other infrastructure in the Local Government Area, and to consult with the community to find out people's needs."

Mrs Menzie and her husband, Craig, are looking forward to moving to Glen Innes. "We come from a rural background, and prefer living in a country town," Mrs Menzie said. "We both enjoy fishing, and are happy to be moving to an area which has good fishing. I also intend to join the local Toastmasters Club. We are keen to get to meet people, and to become part of the community."

Council wishes to thank Malcolm Donnelly, who has been Acting Director of Engineering Services since the departure of Ralf Stoeckeler in March.
