Highway Signs to Raise Celtic Country Profile
Glen Innes, Celtic Country, plans to raise its profile even further by erecting uniquely-themed highway entrance signs as well as a sign at the Australian Standing Stones.
The signs have been commissioned from Danthonia Designs, Inverell, and strongly project the Celtic Country theme, the town's Heritage building-lined main street and the site of the Australian Standing Stones, unique in the southern hemisphere and venue for the annual Australian Celtic Festival.
"Glen Innes is strategically situated at the intersection of the New England and Gwydir Highways, offering a quality country lifestyle, progressive businesses and holidays attractions," Glen Innes' Economic Development and Tourism Manager, Wendy Fahey, said. "Uniquely themed highway signage will enhance our profile and help to attract more visitors. The signs are a continuation of our highly successful Celtic Country destination branding, which has already captured national attention."
The signs on the northern and southern approach to the town will be erected in mid-August, with similar signs planned for east and west on the Gwydir Highway next financial year. The Australian Standing Stones sign will be located within Centennial Parklands.
The signs were developed from a council working committee which included Glen Innes Mayor Cr Steve Toms, Deputy Mayor Cr Col Price and General Manger Hein Basson.
